Dansummer 2012
The DANSUMMER 2012 workshop will return this year from July 16 – August 4 in the Pump Room Studio at 3rd and Maroon Ave in Crested Butte. DANSUMMER has been the summer workshop intensive for the Crested Butte School of Dance for the last 30 years. This program brings quality teachers from around the country to teach and inspire Crested Butte, Gunnison and visiting dancers.

Perform for Vinotok!
Calling all Dancers, Performers, Stilt Walkers, Supporters, Space Holders, and Enthusiasts !!!!
Come perform with the CB Dance Collective for Vinotok, our annual fall harvest festival in Crested Butte. For more then 25 years, Vinotok has been celebrated in CB. This year the Dance Collective is directing and performing a brand new opening piece, The Celebration of The Harvest Mother. This piece will kick off the Vinotok celebrations on Sunday, September 18th during the farmers market from noon till 1pm. For those who may not know, the Vinotok festival starts Sun. 9/18 and runs thru Sat. 9/24 when the grump burns…Wahoooo!
We are currently looking for participants 14 years old and up who are interested in dancing, acting, stilt-walking, and costume making. Also, we will need support with logistics, volunteer coordinating, set making, and just making wonderful art happen on the street.
If you would like to be involved, please come to the informational meeting on Wednesday August 31st at 5:30 p.m. at Rainbow Park.

Step Out! Performance
It’s show time once again!! The students and faculty of the Dansummer workshop will bring their many talents to the stage Arts Fair weekend to culminate the three week dance program. The intensive workshop offering daily classes in tap and jazz/hip-hop will showcase the students’ accomplishments and achievements in yet another dynamite show.
Guest artists/teachers Jacob Mora, former dancer with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble and Donovan Helma, former Tap Dogs dancer, have challenged and inspired the kids, teens and adults with the latest choreography out there in the dance world. Their classes have included hip hop, lyrical, musical theater, jazz and rhythm tap. The show will include these many styles and will feature solos, duets and trios by students and the Dansummer faculty.
So join the fun and come to the shows at the Center for the Arts on Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6 at 7:30 PM.
Tickets are on sale at the Crested Butte Music Festival Office at 326 Elk Ave. in downtown Crested Butte (open 7 days/wk 10AM – 7 PM) and at the door. The ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. This show is appropriate for all ages so bring the family.

Day of the Arts

All levels are welcome and no experience is necessary! Don’t miss this community jam session! Please wear comfortable footwear, preferably sneakers, as well as clothes that allow you to really move!

Poi – Fire Dancing Workshops
Will and Satya of Illumicirque, will host the two fire spinning and fire dancing workshops this weekend 6/17 – 6/18/2011 in Crested Butte, CO. All workshops will be held at the Pump Room Studio above the Fire Department at 306 Maroon Ave.

Beyond Spinning – Poi Dance and Performance Technique
$15 (Or both workshops for $20)
Friday, June 17th 6-8pm
AGES 13 & UP
Intermediate level workshop, builds off of basic poi spinning techniques, and is good for those who have at least some experience with poi. Learn to free your movement so you can dance rather than just transitioning from one move to the next. We will explore more challenging concepts such as flower, mind meltdown, isolations, wraps and variations. We will also introduce simple partner interaction.
Staff and Double Staff – $15 (Or both wksps for $20)
Saturday, June 18th 10am-noon
AGES 13 & UP
Let’s spin sticks! We will begin with a basic introduction to staff spinning, then we will learn to take poi movements and transition them to staffs. Finally, we will combine everything we know and use both hands with doubles! Bring staffs. We will have a limited number on hand for people to use.
