The DANSUMMER 2012 workshop will return this year from July 16 – August 4 in the Pump Room Studio at 3rd and Maroon Ave in Crested Butte. DANSUMMER has been the summer workshop intensive for the Crested Butte School of Dance for the last 30 years. This program brings quality teachers from around the country to teach and inspire Crested Butte, Gunnison and visiting dancers. The three-week daily workshop will include urban street jazz classes for kids 8-10 years of age and contemporary jazz for students age 11 – adult. The classes are split into levels which include intermediate advanced, and advanced classes. Jacob Mora from Denver, Colorado, will be teaching the urban street jazz and contemporary jazz classes. We found Jacob at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Studio where he teaches Contemporary Jazz, Modern, Lyrical and Hip Hop. He is also the artistic Director of Moraporvida Contemporary Dance, a company based on urban experiences. He works as an international performer, teacher and artist. He was chosen to teach for the workshop for his diverse style, his warm personality, and his wealth of experience teaching and choreographing for kids, teens and adults. Donovan Helma will be teaching the tap classes for the workshop. Donovan has just finished a tour with the international cast of Tap Dogs, a high energy rhythm tap show that includes percussion pieces with tap dancing. He has been touring with the group since 2004. Donovan began dancing at the age of the 3 and currently continues his education in New York City. In 2009 and 2010, Donovan toured with the new Gregory Hines tribute show, “Thank You Gregory”. Donovan will be teaching rhythm and traditional tap to all levels of dancers during the 3 week workshop. DANSUMMER students and faculty will perform at the end of the workshop at the Center for the Arts during Arts Fair Weekend, August 5 and 6 and choreography will be set during the classes by this extraordinary faculty. |
